What the numbers show
Out-of-school rate for children, adolescents and youth of primary, lower secondary and upper secondary school age, female (%) is currently reported for 137 countries. The highest value is 56.4% in Niger; the lowest is 0.1% in Israel.
The median across all reporting countries is 6.4%, and the mean is 11.3%.
The gap between the highest and lowest reporting country is a factor of about 1,017.
Over the past decade 35 countries rose and 96 fell. The largest increase was in British Virgin Islands (up 359.9%), and the largest decrease in Ireland (down 83.1%).

To calculate the indicator, the number of students of the official age for primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary education enrolled in primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary education is subtracted from the total population of primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary education. The result is expressed as a percentage of the population of the official age for primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary education.
